Who lives where? Macrobenthic species distribution over sediment types and depth classes in the eastern North Sea

Werner Armonies

Summary: The study evaluated the distribution of infaunal species in the eastern North Sea based on data sets, finding that water depth and sediment median grain size were significant factors affecting species abundance. Most species showed decreasing abundance towards shallow, hydrographically turbulent areas, suggesting hydrography as a limiting factor. Additionally, significant depth x sediment type interactions indicated that distributional patterns varied with depth level, representing realized niches for populations in the study area.

Estimating climate-induced 'Nowhere to go' range shifts of the Himalayan Incarvillea Juss. using multi-model median ensemble species distribution models

Santosh Kumar Rana et al.

Summary: This study used a species distribution model under climate change to explore the adaptability range changes of Incarvillea species in the Himalayas, showing larger ecological differentiation within the genus and subgenera by climatic rather than environmental variables. The model predicted an expansion of the species range in the Hengduan Mountains under future climate warming, but did not fully support the "Nowhere to go" hypothesis.

Tropicalization of temperate ecosystems in North America: The northward range expansion of tropical organisms in response to warming winter temperatures

Michael J. Osland et al.

Summary: Tropicalization refers to the transformation of temperate ecosystems by poleward-moving tropical organisms in response to warming temperatures. In North America, as extreme winter cold events decrease, many tropical species are expected to expand their range northward, potentially impacting temperate organisms. The effects of extreme cold events on tropical organisms are significant and understudied, with warming winters likely facilitating the poleward range expansion of tropical species.

Modelling the Effects of Climate Change on the Distribution of Endangered Cypripedium japonicum in China

Yadong Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that with climate change, the suitable habitat of C. japonicum will slightly increase and shift northwestward, but highly suitable areas will be severely lost. Under future climatic conditions, the highly suitable habitats in Zhejiang and Anhui will almost disappear. The problem of climate change may be more urgent than it is believed.

Predicting current and future global distribution of black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii) under changing climate

Yunlong Chen et al.

Summary: The study used species distribution models to investigate the impact of climate change on the habitat suitability of Sebastes schlegelii, showing that the ensemble model produced more accurate projections than individual models. Bottom temperature was found to be the most important factor determining the distribution range of S. schlegelii, with climate change predicted to lead to habitat reduction for the species.
