Cochliomycin G, a 14-membered resorcylic acid lactone from a marine-derived fungus Cochliobolus lunatus

Wei-Feng Xu et al.

Summary: A new 14-membered resorcylic acid lactone, Cochliomycin G, and six known analogues were isolated from a marine-derived fungus and showed potent antifouling activity against certain microalgae. The structures were determined using NMR spectroscopy, and the absolute configuration was elucidated using empirical rules, CD data, and C-13 chemical shift calculations.

Maipomycin A, a Novel Natural Compound With Promising Anti-biofilm Activity Against Gram-Negative Pathogenic Bacteria

Junliang Zhang et al.

Summary: Pathogenic bacterial biofilms are difficult to eradicate and can develop antibiotic resistance. MaiA, a compound isolated from a rare actinomycete strain, shows broad-spectrum anti-biofilm activities against Gram-negative bacteria and can enhance the efficacy of certain antibiotics, potentially serving as an effective agent to prevent biofilm formation.

Anthraquinones as Potential Antibiofilm Agents Against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Zhi-Man Song et al.

Summary: This study evaluated anthraquinone compounds for antibacterial and antibiofilm activities against MRSA, leading to the discovery of potential antibiofilm agents, anthraquinone-2-carboxlic acid (6) and rhein (12). The structure-activity relationship analysis indicated that the hydroxyl group at the C-2 position played an important role in inhibiting biofilm formation, while the carboxyl group at the same position had great influence on antibacterial and biofilm eradication activities.
