Quantifying individual variability in exposure risk to mosquito bites in the Cascades region, Burkina Faso

Federica Guglielmo et al.

Summary: The study found significant variation in outdoor Anopheles mosquito bite exposure between individuals and across seasons. In October, when Anopheles densities are highest, the risk of Anopheles bites per person per night ranged from 2.2 to 52.2, depending on hours spent indoors. Males and individuals over 21 years old were predicted to receive more bites in both sentinel villages.

Recommendations for building out mosquito-transmitted diseases in sub-Saharan Africa: the DELIVER mnemonic

Steven W. Lindsay et al.

Summary: The transmission of mosquito-borne diseases in sub-Saharan Africa mainly occurs within or around houses. By implementing simple changes to the built environment, such as screening doors and windows, closing eaves, using insecticide-treated nets, and maintaining environmental cleanliness, the risk of exposure to these diseases can be greatly reduced. The DELIVER package provides a combination of interventions to effectively combat mosquito-transmitted diseases and prevent their re-emergence after elimination.

Impact and cost-effectiveness of a lethal house lure against malaria transmission in central Cote d'Ivoire: a two-arm, cluster-randomised controlled trial

Eleanore D. Sternberg et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of lethal house lures in malaria control, showing that screening plus Eave Tubes can effectively reduce malaria incidence, has a high cost-effectiveness, and no serious adverse events associated with the intervention were reported.

The relationship between house height and mosquito house entry: an experimental study in rural Gambia

Majo Carrasco-Tenezaca et al.

Summary: The study found that raising buildings off the ground can effectively reduce malaria transmission in rural Gambia, as most malaria mosquitoes fly close to the ground and showed significantly reduced entry when buildings were elevated.

The issue is not 'compliance': exploring exposure to malaria vector bites through social dynamics in Burkina Faso

Federica Guglielmo et al.

Summary: This article explores the concept of compliance with bednet use in an area of high malaria transmission in south-west Burkina Faso through ethnographic fieldwork. It critically examines the micro-environments that influence bednet use and assesses the effectiveness of bednets in the community. The study emphasizes that compliance with bednet use is a complex process influenced by various social and individual factors.
