Visual Ozone Sensor: Structural Color Change of Pendant Selenium-Containing Maleimide Polymers via Oxidation

Qilong Li et al.

Summary: In this study, selenium-containing maleimide polymers with different selenium contents were synthesized via radical copolymerization. The polymer structures and selenium contents were characterized using various techniques, and the refractive indices of the polymers were investigated as a function of selenium content and oxidative stimuli. A photonic crystal based on the selenium-containing polymer was prepared, and the visible color changes of the photonic crystal were studied with different concentrations and contact times of O-3.

Controllable Radical Polymerization of Selenide Functionalized Vinyl Monomers and Its Application in Redox Responsive Photonic Crystals

Shaoxiang Liu et al.

Summary: The synthesis of selenium-containing monomer polystyrene by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization, as well as the structure changes during redox cycling, were studied. The properties of the polymer before and after oxidation were investigated, and a selenium-containing polymer was successfully used to fabricate inverse opal photonic crystals for use as a redox-responsive sensor, showcasing new perspectives in modulating photonic crystals.

A facile strategy to construct versatile fluorescent probes for the detection of Au3+ and nitroaromatic

Shaoxiang Liu et al.

Summary: By photo-induced RAFT polymerization, copolymers of p-phenylseleno styrene and 4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl acrylate were successfully synthesized, with selective oxidation of the selenide moiety altering the structure and properties of the copolymers. Systematic investigation of the properties of the copolymers before and after oxidation was conducted, leading to the development of a versatile and multifunctional fluorescent probe sensor.

Living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers initiated by electrophilic selenium reagents under ambient conditions

Xia Lin et al.

Summary: A living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers was developed using electrophilic selenium reagents as initiators and pentacarbonylbromomanganese as the catalyst. This polymerization could be conducted under ambient conditions and yielded polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. The method also allowed for the introduction of different selenium-containing structures into the polymers.
