NIR and MIR spectroscopy for quick detection of the adulteration of cocoa content in chocolates

Ingrid Alves Santos et al.

Summary: The study utilized Near Infrared (NIR) and Mid Infrared (MIR) Spectroscopy with chemometric techniques to accurately determine cocoa solids content in chocolates and detect possible adulterations. The results showed that Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Partial Least Squares Regression (PLS) could effectively differentiate chocolates with varying cocoa solids concentrations, with high predictive capacity for commercial samples as well. The models identified approximately 14% of commercial samples as potentially adulterated products.

Biocomposites based on poly(hydroxybutyrate) and the mesocarp of babassu coconut (Orbignya phalerata Mart.): effect of wax removal and maleic anhydride-modified polyethylene addition

Natalia Fernanda Inocencio Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of BM flour extractives and MAPE addition on the properties of PHBad/BM biocomposites. It is found that MAPE acts as an effective additive for BM flour, increasing the tensile strength of the biocomposites to levels comparable to or slightly higher than the PHBad-MAPE matrix. Additionally, particle treatments result in biocomposites with lower tensile strength.
