Spray drying of whey protein stabilized nanoemulsions containing different wall materials - maltodextrin or trehalose

Anges Teo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of spray drying nanoemulsions using corn oil and different wall components, finding that high-quality powders with good physicochemical and functional properties can be produced. Trehalose produced smaller particles with higher bulk density, while maltodextrin had fewer cracks. All spray dried powders displayed good reconstitution ability and longer shelf-life compared to liquid nanoemulsions.

Synthesis and self-healing properties of composite microcapsule based on sodium alginate/melamine-phenol-formaldehyde resin

Wenjing Jiang et al.

Summary: A new type of self-healing microcapsule material was proposed to address microcracks and local damage in concrete materials. The composite microcapsules have small particle size and high coverage rate, with 4% microcapsule content showing the best compression and repair performance. Molecular dynamics simulation demonstrated good self-healing behavior in cracks, suggesting certain advantages in cost and eco-efficiency for this material.

Spray drying encapsulation of bioactive compounds within protein-based carriers; different options and applications

Zahra Akbarbaglu et al.

Summary: Spray-drying is a common and cost-effective technique for encapsulating nutrients and bioactive compounds, but challenges such as shear and thermal stresses, as well as physicochemical instability during storage, lead to the loss of compounds. This paper focuses on the stabilization of bioactives in carriers such as proteins, discussing their role in encapsulation and maintenance of physicochemical, structural, and functional properties of bioactive compounds and nutrients.
