The Innate Immune cGAS-STING-Pathway in Cardiovascular Diseases - A Mini Review

Lavinia Rech et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the cGAS-STING pathway is involved in cardiovascular diseases, particularly in response to pathogens. Additionally, self-DNA released during conditions like obesity or myocardial infarction may also activate this pathway. Further research is needed to better understand the interaction of cGAS-STING with cardiovascular risk factors and disease.

STING, a cytosolic DNA sensor, plays a critical role in atherogenesis: a link between innate immunity and chronic inflammation caused by lifestyle-related diseases

Phuong Tran Pham et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) plays a role in atherosclerosis, and its signaling may serve as a potential therapeutic target for the disease by inhibiting STING activation to improve atherosclerosis progression.
