NaYbF4@NaYF4 Nanoparticles: Controlled Shell Growth and Shape-Dependent Cellular Uptake

Summary: This study presents a controlled synthesis of NaYbF4@NaYF4 core-shell upconversion nanoparticles using the hot-injection technique. The core-shell nanoparticles are further modified with DNA molecules and incubated with adenocarcinomic human alveolar basal epithelial cells. Favorable cellular uptake and DNA delivery are observed for the quasi-sphere nanoparticles, owing to the high dispersibility and easy membrane wrapping.

Summary: This study analyzed the changes in proteinase sensitivity and size distribution of PrPSc aggregates during cellular uptake and degradation. The findings suggest that PrPSc aggregates become less resistant to proteinase K digestion after cellular uptake, but become more resistant during disassembly by removing protease-sensitive PrPSc.
