Extending CityGML for IFC-sourced 3D city models

Filip Biljecki et al.

Summary: The differences in scope and intent between IFC and CityGML data formats can result in information loss when converting from the former to the latter. However, in certain cases, retaining specific information from IFC that is not native to CityGML can be beneficial, requiring mechanisms such as the CityGML Application Domain Extension (ADE). Our development of an ADE to support retaining relevant information from IFC was driven by a discovery process involving potentially applicable use cases in Singapore and shaped to adapt to a set of use cases and the local geographic context.

Holistic analysis and prediction of life cycle cost for vertical greenery systems in Singapore

Ziyou Huang et al.

Summary: This study established a prediction model for the life cycle cost (LCC) of vertical greenery systems (VGS) using data from 40 cases, with the OPLS model selected for its good prediction performance and avoidance of collinearity issues. The combined OPLS model was separated into three individual models for improved total prediction accuracy (85.4% to 95.5%), while key variables affecting the LCC of different types of VGS were identified. Applications of the LCC prediction models for VGS for various stakeholders were also discussed in the conclusion of the study.

Assessment of solar photovoltaic potentials on urban noise barriers using street-view imagery

Teng Zhong et al.

Summary: Solar energy captured by photovoltaic noise barrier (PVNB) systems has the potential to meet the high demand for renewable energy sources in urban areas where available land for solar panel installations is limited. A computational framework has been proposed to estimate the solar PV potential of PVNB systems based on existing and planned noise barrier sites. In Nanjing, the estimated annual solar PV potentials in 2019 from existing and planned noise barriers indicate significant potential installed capacity and annual power generation for PVNB systems.

3D city models for urban farming site identification in buildings

Ankit Palliwal et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of 3D city models to identify suitable farming micro-locations in residential buildings, using high-rise buildings in Singapore as a case study. The research shows that different levels and orientations within a building can have varying light conditions that affect the suitability for growing crops, and validates the accuracy of simulation results with field measurements.
