Effects of Grazing, Wind Erosion, and Dust Deposition on Plant Community Composition and Structure in a Temperate Steppe

Mengmei Zheng et al.

Summary: Grazing can affect plant community by decreasing total cover but increasing species richness, while wind erosion suppresses short-stature plants and reduces total cover, and dust deposition enhances total cover but decreases species richness by driving some plant species to extinction. The combined effects of these factors have additive effects on vegetation cover and species richness.

Improving sand wind erosion resistance using renewable agriculturally derived biopolymers

Kehinde Lemboye et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the use of agriculturally derived biopolymers to stabilize sand against wind-induced erosion. The experimental results showed that the proposed biopolymers significantly increased the resistance of dune sand exposed to wind speeds, with varying effects based on the type of biopolymer used. Scanning electron microscopy images revealed effective bonding of sand particles and improved erosion resistance against wind erosion.

New laboratory techniques (novel) in making organic-mineral mulch to control wind and water erosion and its use in global scale

Saeed Shojaei et al.

Summary: In this study, a new formulation of mulch was developed using materials like cement, gypsum, lime, and blackstrap mixture to control wind and water erosion. Response surface method was applied to design and optimize the experiment conditions. The results showed that the materials increase soil resistance and decrease erosion, with gypsum showing opposite reaction at high density. A suggested mixture for minimum wind erosion was achieved, while the lowest water erosion amount was obtained with a specific combination of materials. Analysis of variance confirmed the accuracy of the data simulation. The formulation in this study meets standards to control erosion globally.
