Application of discrete wavelet transform in seismic nonlinear analysis of soil-structure interaction problems

Reza Kamgar et al.

Summary: The study investigates seismic responses of soil-structure systems using wavelet transform methodology, decomposing seismic records and evaluating responses of systems under the influence of approximate signals. Results indicate that for earthquakes with low PGA/PGV ratio, the error percentage for parameters at the first level is below 5%, and the error index is under 10% for the third level. As the PGA/PGV ratio of an earthquake increases, the agreement between approximate results and main results decreases, but even for earthquakes with a PGA/PGV ratio higher than 1.2 g s/m, the first-level approximation can predict seismic responses with at least 90% accuracy while reducing computational time.

Seismic response evaluation of structures using discrete wavelet transform through linear analysis

Reza Kamgar et al.

Summary: This article utilized the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to construct the wavelet response spectrum analysis (WRSA) of structures in the linear elastic zone, studying the elastic response spectra of different single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems for various beam-to-column stiffness ratios. The results demonstrated that the WRSA method could reduce computational time significantly and provided insights into error values for different structural configurations.

Research on dynamic response characteristics and control effect of mega-sub controlled structural system under long-period ground motions

Xinwei Wang et al.

Summary: A new structure system, MSCSS, combining structural response control theory and the construction principle of megastructures, is proposed. Through the analysis of time-frequency power spectral density characteristics of typical ground motions, a reasonable cross-section was designed and a finite element model was established to verify the response control characteristics of MSCSS.

An evaluation of the advantages of friction TMD over conventional TMD

Mitra Salimi et al.

Summary: The research evaluates the advantages of friction tuned mass dampers (FTMD) over conventional TMD in tall structures by developing an optimal design based on a multi-objective cuckoo search optimization algorithm. The seismic performances of a 40-storey tall building were compared, showing that both dampers could reduce floor displacement, drift, and acceleration significantly. The FTMD system exhibited a better performance in reducing roof displacement when the mass ratio was less than 0.03, which is considered important practically.

Improving the nonlinear seismic performance of steel moment-resisting frames with minimizing the ductility damage index

Masoud Dadkhah et al.

Summary: The study presents a parameter optimization method for a tuned mass damper (TMD) based on the ductility damage index to enhance the seismic performance of a six-story steel structure. By utilizing the water cycle algorithm, the optimal parameters of the TMD system are calculated to minimize the ductility damage index under earthquake loads, leading to improved seismic performance of the structure by reducing displacement, stories damage, and drift ratio.

Seismic analysis of the tuned-inerter-damper enhanced mega-sub structure system

Qigang Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seismic control of the MSSS using tuned inerter damper (TID) and compares it with other control strategies. The effectiveness of the TID is verified through analysis of a multistorey MSSS, showing its performance is better than viscous damper (VD) and tuned mass damper (TMD) within the recommended working scope.
