Wastewater-Based Epidemiology of Enteric Viruses and Surveillance of Acute Gastrointestinal Illness Outbreaks in a Resource-Limited Region

Luz Chacon et al.

Summary: This study applied wastewater-based epidemiology to identify potential outbreaks of acute viral gastroenteritis and hepatitis A in Costa Rica in 2013. The results showed a higher rate of positive viral tests 1 week before an increase in AGI cases, indicating the potential for predictive monitoring of these diseases in small WWTPs.
