Efficacy and Safety of Paclitaxel-Coated Balloon Angioplasty for Dysfunctional Arteriovenous Fistulas: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial

Yanqi Yin et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that in Chinese hemodialysis patients, using DCB for treating AVF restenosis achieved superior primary patency at 6 months and intervention-free survival at 12 months for both the target lesion and target shunt compared to conventional HPB angioplasty.

Safety and Efficacy of Paclitaxel-Eluting Balloon Angioplasty for Dysfunctional Hemodialysis Access: A randomized trial Comparing with Angioplasty Alone

Summary: The study showed that drug-coated balloon (DCB) is more effective than plain-balloon percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in reducing the incidence and severity of restenosis in hemodialysis access, leading to lower risk of access failure.

Network meta-analysis of trials comparing first line endovascular treatments for arteriovenous fistula stenosis

Gregory Tripsianis et al.

Summary: The study found that drug-coated balloon angioplasty (DCBA) was significantly more effective than plain balloon angioplasty (PBA) in the short term for patients with failing autogenous arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) with outflow vein stenosis. However, there were no significant differences among the three treatments at 1 year. Further investigation is needed to assess the long-term effectiveness of DCBA.

Summary: This study is a non-sponsored randomized trial comparing the efficacy of paclitaxel-coated balloon (DCB) versus plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) in treating dysfunctional vascular access. The results showed significantly better primary patency in the DCB group at 12 months.
