This study investigates the effects of concentration and temperature on the density of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide in water, and finds that the density of the solution decreases with an increase in temperature and increases with an increase in concentration at a constant temperature.
Ionic liquids are a special group of chemicals with fascinating properties that make them amenable to versatile applications. In this work, the effects of concentration (0.1-0.6%w/w) and temperature (303.2-338.2 K) on the density of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide in water have been explored. The density of the solution decreases with an increase in the temperature for each concentration and increases with an increase in the concentration at a constant temperature. A two-layered artificial feed-forward back-propagation neural network model of 2-3-1 architecture is regarded as the best predictive model with mean square error, root mean square error and average absolute error percentage as 1.27, 1.13 and 0.097, respectively. Moreover, apparent molar volume has been evaluated from experimental densities.
