Patient-provider communication about medication cost in rheumatoid arthritis

K. Julia Kaal et al.

Summary: The study in Canada examined the importance and frequency of discussing out-of-pocket medication costs between rheumatologists and patients with RA. Results showed high perceived importance of discussing medication costs by both patients and physicians, with patients who perceived it as very important more likely to discuss costs. However, discussions about cost do not always happen, highlighting a need for patients to initiate these conversations.

Cost Conversations About Anticoagulation Between Patients With Atrial Fibrillation and Their Clinicians A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial

Celia C. Kamath et al.

Summary: The study found that conversations about the costs of anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation were common between patients and clinicians, especially for middle-income patients and with female and consultant-level primary care clinicians. These conversations were associated with patients' consideration of treatment cost burden but did not influence the final treatment choice.
