Nanomechanical probing and strain tuning of the Curie temperature in suspended Cr2Ge2Te6-based heterostructures

Makars Siskins et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical and magnetic properties of two-dimensional magnetic materials as well as their variations with temperature and strain through the use of suspended thin film resonators. By compensating for the negative thermal expansion coefficient with heterostructures, the possibility of detecting multiple magnetic phase transitions in a single heterostructure is demonstrated. Lastly, a strain-induced enhancement of Curie temperature is achieved in a suspended heterostructure.

Van Der Waals Heterostructures Based on Atomically-Thin Superconductors

Carla Boix-Constant et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the integration of 2D materials between 2D superconductors in Van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs). The vertical vdWHs based on NbSe2/TaS2/NbSe2 stacks exhibit phase transitions such as 1T-TaS2 charge density wave and NbSe2 superconductivity. The study also shows an enhancement of vdWH resistance due to Andreev reflections in NbSe2 superconducting state.

Out-of-Plane Transport of 1T-TaS2/Graphene-Based van der Waals Heterostructures

Carla Boix-Constant et al.

Summary: Layered materials, such as 1T-TaS2, are excellent for studying the interplay between in-plane and out-of-plane entanglement in strongly correlated systems. Experimental findings supported by DFT+U calculations reveal dimensionality as a key factor in understanding quantum materials like 1T-TaS2. The presence of an energy gap in the few-layer limit highlights the possible experimental realization of low-dimensional quantum spin liquid states.

Controlling the anisotropy of a van der Waals antiferromagnet with light

Dmytro Afanasiev et al.

Summary: Van der Waals magnets provide a platform for exploring low-dimensional magnetism, and using ultrashort pulses of light, researchers have demonstrated control over magnetic anisotropy in the 2D van der Waals antiferromagnet NiPS3. By tuning photon energy in resonance with an orbital transition, they selectively activate a subterahertz magnon mode displaying two-dimensional behavior. The results suggest promising possibilities for manipulating magnetic order in low-dimensional (anti)ferromagnets through orbital resonance excitation.
