Trace water triggers high-efficiency photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production

Zaixiang Xu et al.

Summary: By using alkali-assisted C3N4 as photocatalyst in a water/alcohol mixture solvent, high-efficiency production of H2O2 with a concentration of 113 mmol L-1 can be achieved. The results suggest that alcohol provides and stabilizes center dot OOH radicals, while trace water triggers the photocatalytic production of H2O2 by completely consuming center dot OOH radicals, contributing to the high-efficiency production of H2O2.

A Cobalt@Cucurbit[5]uril Complex as a Highly Efficient Supramolecular Catalyst for Electrochemical and Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Fusheng Li et al.

Summary: A host-guest complex assembled from Co2+ and cucurbit[5]uril (Co@CB[5]) is utilized as a supramolecular catalyst for efficient electrochemical and photoelectrochemical water oxidation on metal oxide surfaces such as porous indium tin oxide (ITO) and porous BiVO4. The complex exhibits high catalytic activity and accelerates charge transfer between BiVO4 and electrolyte, while suppressing surface charge recombination.

Dynamic Activation of Adsorbed Intermediates via Axial Traction for the Promoted Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

Xinyue Wang et al.

Summary: An axial traction strategy was developed to optimize the electronic structure of the M-N-4 moiety, leading to atomically dispersed nickel sites coordinated with four nitrogen atoms and one axial oxygen atom embedded within the carbon matrix (Ni-N-4-O/C). This Ni-N-4-O/C electrocatalyst exhibited excellent CO2RR performance with a high CO Faradic efficiency close to 100% at -0.9 V, maintaining the CO FE above 90% in a wide potential window. The superior CO2RR activity is attributed to the axial traction effect induced by the Ni-N-4-O active moiety.

Dramatically enhanced solar-driven water splitting of BiVO4 photoanode via strengthening hole transfer and light harvesting by co-modification of CQDs and ultrathin beta-FeOOH layers

Tingsheng Zhou et al.

Summary: An excellent CQDs/FeOOH/BiVO4 photoanode was designed to address the issues of severe bulk and surface charge recombination, sluggish OER kinetics, and narrow visible light harvesting in BiVO4. The photoanode showed dramatically enhanced photocurrent and IPCE, attributed to the synergistic catalysis of CQDs and FeOOH, suppression of bulk charge recombination by CQDs/BiVO4 heterojunction, and increased light harvesting by CQDs.

General and Robust Photothermal-Heating-Enabled High-Efficiency Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

Bing He et al.

Summary: The performance of photoanodes in PEC water splitting can be significantly enhanced by sandwiching a photothermal Co3O4 layer between a BiVO4 film and an FeOOH/NiOOH electrocatalyst sheet. This strategy improves light absorption, charge transfer, and water oxidation kinetics simultaneously, leading to superior photocurrent density and efficiency. The use of a variety of metal sulfides, nitrides, and phosphides as heaters can also yield high-performance photoanodes.

Heterogeneous nanocomposites consisting of Pt3Co alloy particles and CoP2 nanorods towards high-efficiency methanol electro-oxidation

Niuwa Yang et al.

Summary: This study reports a synthetic strategy to prepare heterogeneous Pt3Co-CoP2 nanocomposites with high performance for methanol electro-oxidation. The nanocomposites exhibit strong electronic coupling between Pt3Co and CoP2 domains, resulting in decreased electron density around Pt atoms, which is beneficial for reducing the adsorption of poisoning CO-like intermediates on catalyst surfaces. The as-prepared Pt3Co-CoP2 nanocomposites show superior mass-based activity compared to commercial Pt/C catalyst and homemade Pt3Co alloy nanoparticles in both acidic and alkaline media.
