Nanoarchitectonics for Coordination Asymmetry and Related Chemistry

Katsuhiko Ariga et al.

Summary: Nanoarchitectonics is a concept that aims to produce functional materials by fusing nanotechnology with other scientific disciplines. Coordination chemistry, especially through coordination asymmetry strategies, expands this concept to a wider range of elements leading to functional material systems with anisotropy and selectivity.

Reconstituting C-Centered Hexagold(I) Clusters with N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands

Zhen Lei et al.

Summary: The use of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands instead of phosphine ligands in gold clusters can lead to ligand-specific photophysical properties, with intramolecular C-H···Au interactions as a key structural feature. NHC ligands produce clusters with nearly identical metal kernels but significantly different luminescent properties compared to phosphine ligands. Extension of the pi-conjugated system of NHCs can result in significant changes in absorption coefficient and emission wavelength.

Revealing the chirality origin and homochirality crystallization of Ag14 nanocluster at the molecular level

Xiao-Qian Liang et al.

Summary: The study reports two homochiral Ag-14 nanoclusters with inherent chirality originated from intra-cluster pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interaction between ligands. The racemic mixture can be spontaneously resolved into homochiral nanoclusters by re-crystallizing in acetonitrile, highlighting the importance of solvent choice in achieving homochiral crystallization.

Self-assembly of N-heterocyclic carbenes on Au(111)

Alex Inayeh et al.

Summary: N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have emerged as a promising alternative to sulfur-based ligands for self-assembly on gold surfaces, but there are still many unanswered questions about their behavior on surfaces. This study examines fundamental questions such as NHC orientation, mobility, and self-assembly by analyzing NHC overlayers on Au(111).
