Radiation damage and thermal annealing in tunnel structured hollandite materials

Mingyang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of B-site dopants on radiation stability of hollandite samples irradiated by a high-energy ion beam. Different radiation responses were observed in hollandite with different B-site dopants, with Ga-substituted hollandite showing the best radiation stability. Thermal analysis after annealing revealed complex structural evolution of the radiation damaged hollandite structure at different length-scales.

Perovskite-Derived Cs2SnCl6-Silica Composites as Advanced Waste Forms for Chloride Salt Wastes

Kun Yang et al.

Summary: The study explores innovative concept of using metal halide perovskites as advanced host phases to incorporate Cs and Cl with very high waste loadings for chemically durable waste forms. Waste forms using metal halide perovskite-silica composites exhibit exceptional chemical durability, with Cs and Cl release rates comparable to or outperforming state-of-the-art waste form materials, while allowing significantly higher waste loadings. The scalable synthesis of the metal halide perovskite from wet chemistry processes provides new opportunities for designing advanced waste forms for salt wastes with very high waste loadings and exceptional chemical durability.

Chemical durability and surface alteration of lanthanide zirconates (A2Zr2O7: A = La-Yb)

Kun Yang et al.

Summary: The chemical durability of lanthanide zirconates (A2Zr2O7) (A = La-Yb) under near-field environments is important for assessing their potential as nuclear waste forms. The formation of passivation films on the surface of these materials is influenced by factors such as cation ionic size, ionic potential, electronegativity differences between A-site cation and Zr, and bonding valence sum of oxygen.
