Enhancing lithium ion diffusion kinetic in hierarchical lithium titanate@erbium oxide from coating to doping via facile one-step co-precipitation

Zhenjie Liu et al.

Summary: Hierarchical lithium titanate@erbium oxide (Li4Ti5O12@Er2O3) microspheres with well-defined structure were successfully synthesized by a one-step co-precipitation method. The material shows excess rate capacity due to the hierarchical microsphere structure, Er2O3 coating, and Er3+ doping. The diffusion pathways for Li+ ions are shortened by the hierarchical microsphere structure, while the Er2O3 coating reduces adverse interface reactions and Er3+ doping induces oxygen vacancies to enhance Li+ ion diffusion kinetics.

The effect of MWCNT modification on structural and morphological properties of Li4Ti5O12

Monika Michalska et al.

Summary: In this study, lithium titanium oxide (Li4Ti5O12) particles were surface-modified with 1-5% wt. of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) using a new low temperature method. Various analytical techniques were applied to characterize the materials, revealing that the crystal structure of LTO was not affected by MWCNT modification. The electrochemical analysis showed that the LTO powder modified with 1%wt. of MWCNT exhibited the best electrochemical performance, retaining over 98% of its specific capacity after 50 cycles of charge/discharge processes at a current rate of 1 C.

Synergy of a hierarchical porous morphology and anionic defects of nanosized Li4Ti5O12 toward a high-rate and large-capacity lithium-ion battery

Yanan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical porous Ti3+CNBr co-doped LTO (LTOCPB-CC) was synthesized to enhance the performance of Li4TiSO12 (LTO) batteries. A new molecular chelate Ti-4(+)-O-CPB/LitCC was designed to promote uniform mixing of Li+ and Ti4+ ions. The as-prepared LTOCPB-CC showed excellent rate capability and stable long-term cycling performance due to its large specific surface area, high tap density, and high electronic/ionic conductivity.

Facile synthesis of CNTs@TiO2 composites by solvothermal reaction for high-rate and long-life lithium-ion batteries

Shuo Zhao et al.

Summary: Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs)@TiO2 composites were successfully prepared via solvothermal process, with glycerol playing a crucial role. As the content of CNTs in the composites increased, the surface areas increased and the TiO2 layer became more uniform. The composites showed excellent high-rate performance and cyclic stability due to the rapid conductive network formed by CNTs and the contribution from pseudocapacitance.
