Carbon decorated Li3V2(PO4)3 for high-rate lithium-ion batteries: Electrochemical performance and charge compensation mechanism

Manling Ding et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the remarkable high-rate capability and long-term cycling performance of carbon decorated Li3V2(PO4)(3) cathode. Through spectroscopic analysis, the reversible evolution of V-O hybridization strength in LVP/C during the discharge-charge processes is identified as a key factor contributing to its outstanding electrochemical performance. This research not only provides an effective synthesis strategy but also deeper insights into the surface and bulk electrochemical reaction mechanism of LVP, which could benefit the further design of high-performance LVP electrode materials.

Insight into pre-sodiation in Na3V2(PO4)2F3/C @ hard carbon full cells for promoting the development of sodium-ion battery

Yuqiang Pi et al.

Summary: Sodium-ion battery is gaining attention in large-scale energy storage systems due to its lower cost compared to lithium-ion batteries. Research demonstrates that a specific full cell composition with a spray-dried NVPF/C cathode and pre-sodiated HC anode shows superior energy storage capability, power performance, and cycling life. The outstanding battery performance is attributed to the electroactivity Na+ in HC maximizing the scavenger effect and forming a stable SEI, with the degree of HC pre-sodiation impacting the battery performance. These findings provide insights into electrode design strategy and facilitate sodium-ion technology development.

Effect of Zr4+ doping on the morphological features and electrochemical performance of monoclinic Li3V2(PO4)3/C cathode material synthesized by an improved sol-gel combustion technique

Nali Li et al.

Summary: Monoclinic Li3V2-xZrx(PO4)(3)/C composites with different Zr4+ doping amounts were prepared by a sol-gel combustion technique. Zr4+ doping led to an expansion in lattice volume, improved morphological characteristics, reduced resistances, and enhanced electrochemical performance. Optimal doping level of Zr4+ was found to be x = 0.05, resulting in the highest tap density and excellent electrochemical properties.

Interfacial Effects on Transport Coefficient Measurements in Li-ion Battery Electrolytes

Helen K. Bergstrom et al.

Summary: Developing Li+-containing electrolytes with improved transport properties requires reliable techniques to understand ion-transport. This study applied a potentiostatic polarization-based approach to measure transport coefficients in liquid electrolytes, revealing challenges in characterizing electrolyte systems where interfacial resistance is significantly larger than ohmic electrolyte resistance. Methods relying on potentiostatic Li metal stripping/plating did not reliably determine liquid electrolyte transport coefficients.

Formation of Stable Interphase of Polymer-in-Salt Electrolyte in All-Solid-State Lithium Batteries

Hongcai Gao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an all-solid-state lithium battery based on a polymer-in-salt electrolyte, which features a wide electrochemically stable window, high ionic conductivity, increased lithium-ion transference number, and suppressed dendrite growth from the lithium-metal anode. Additionally, a stable interphase formed between the lithium-metal anode and the polymer-in-salt electrolyte can restrain uncontrolled parasitic reactions.

3-D Edge-Oriented Electrocatalytic NiCo2S4 Nanoflakes on Vertical Graphene for Li-S Batteries

Wenyue Li et al.

Summary: By designing and synthesizing a free-standing edge-oriented NiCo2S4/vertical graphene functionalized carbon nanofiber (NCS/EOG/CNF) thin film as a catalytic overlayer incorporated in the sulfur cathode, the polysulfide shuttle effect is largely alleviated, resulting in enhanced electrochemical performance and catalytic function. This novel structure, with high density of active sites and high conductivity, along with high sulfur loading and fraction, leads to high-performance sulfur cathodes for practical LSB technology.
