Circular Polarization Selective Metamaterial Absorber in Terahertz Frequency Range

Danka B. Stojanovic et al.

Summary: This article proposes a chiral metamaterial absorber operating in the terahertz frequency range, which achieves significant absorption of left circularly polarized light by adjusting the period size of the structure. The chiral structure shows huge circular dichroism and near-unity polarization selective absorption, making it a promising candidate for designing circular polarization selective absorbers.

Chiral Systems Made from DNA

David Winogradoff et al.

Summary: The chemical structure of DNA has implications for self-organization and building functional nanostructures, with recent advances focusing on natural and synthetic chiral systems using DNA. The role of nucleic acid chirality in various situations, liquid crystal phases, and efforts to build chiral structures through DNA self-assembly are discussed. Current and proposed man-made nanostructures designed to probe or utilize DNA's chirality are also explored, from plasmonics to biosensing.

Tunable intraband optical conductivity and polarization-dependent epsilon-near-zero behavior in black phosphorus

Souvik Biswas et al.

Summary: Black phosphorus offers promise for infrared and visible photonics with the ability to modulate its optical conductivity by tuning the charge density in the induced two-dimensional electron gas. By manipulating the free carrier-dominated intraband response, black phosphorus demonstrates polarization-dependent behavior with moderate doping density. These results suggest new optical functions for emerging photonics applications.

Optically tunable all-silicon chiral metasurface in terahertz band

Chenglong Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents all-silicon chiral metasurfaces for highly efficient circular polarization differential transmittance in the terahertz band. In addition to characterizing the static chiral properties, dynamic chiral behaviors are also investigated using optical pumping. The application of the chiral metasurface in polarization multiplexed near-field image display is also demonstrated.

Dynamically adjustable-induced THz circular dichroism and biosensing application of symmetric silicon-graphene-metal composite nanostructures

Yongkai Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigates a composite nanostructure array composed of achiral silicon-nanorods on a metal-substrate and graphene-ribbons (ASMG). It was found that two strong ICD signals appear in the THz region, mainly due to surface plasmon resonances on the metal-substrate and localized surface plasmon resonances in the graphene nanostructures. The ICD signals can be dynamically adjusted by changing the Fermi levels of the graphene-ribbons, showing potential for use in designing dynamically adjustable THz chiral sensors.

Coordination multi-band absorbers with patterned irrelevant graphene patches based on multi-layer film structures

Zhiyu Bao et al.

Summary: The study proposes a novel absorber design that shows great potential in selective absorption and sensor applications, validated through theoretical simulations and numerical calculations. By adjusting the Fermi level of graphene and the height of dielectric material, the performance coordination of the device and the expansion of the frequency range were achieved.
