Controllable resistive switching of STO:Ag/SiO2 -based memristor synapse for neuromorphic computing

Nasir Ilyas et al.

Summary: A STO:Ag/SiO2 bilayer based memristor has been developed to exhibit filamentary resistive switching with stable endurance and long-term data retention, and tunable resistance modulation to mimic potentiation and depression behavior of biological synapses. The controlled formation and rupture of Ag filaments are responsible for resistive switching, showing a switching ratio of around 10(3) with good endurance and stability suitable for nonvolatile memory applications. The memristor has potential applications in synaptic plasticity functions and neuromorphic computing.

Environmental reliability and moisture barrier properties of silicon nitride and silicon oxide films using roll-to-roll plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition

Won Jae Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the stability and degradation mechanism of SiNx and SiOx flexible barrier films under high temperature and high humidity conditions using water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) measurements and cyclic bending tests. The SiOx film exhibited faster oxidation and more significant degradation in barrier performance compared to the SiNx film, especially under environmental conditions of 85 degrees C/85% relative humidity. The SiNx film showed stable barrier performance even after harsh environmental reliability tests, including 10,000 cycles of bending at a fixed radius of 10 mm.

Oxygen Vacancy-Dependent Synaptic Dynamic Behavior of TiOx-Based Transparent Memristor

Yu She et al.

Summary: A transparent synaptic device based on a stack structure of ITO/TiOy/TiOx/TiN is fabricated with high transmittance, introducing an oxygen-deficient TiOy layer to adjust current characteristics. Different thickness ratios of the oxygen-deficient TiOy layer are designed for multilevel resistance state adjustability and analog resistive switching behavior. The device with the optimum thickness ratio offers excellent uniformity and nonlinearity for further simulation of essential synaptic functions.

Emulation of biphasic plasticity in retinal electrical synapses for light-adaptive pattern pre-processing

Lindong Wu et al.

Summary: The artificial electrical synapse based on second-order conductance transition in an Ag-based memristor demonstrates rapid communication in neural systems. By integrating the device with a photosensitive element to form an optical pre-processing unit, it is able to emulate biphasic plasticity of electrical synapses and achieve adaptive pattern recognition tasks under different light and noise settings. This advancement contributes to hardware-level neuromorphic computing and enables image pre-processing with light adaptation and noise suppression for adaptive visual recognition.
