Excimer Formation of Perylene Bisimide Dyes within Stacking-Restrained Folda-Dimers: Insight into Anomalous Temperature Responsive Dual Fluorescence

Congdi Shang et al.

Summary: We fabricated a new compound BPBI-CB-1 by tethering two PBI moieties to a carborane unit. This compound exhibited distinct configurations and dual emissions in different solvents. The equilibrium between monomer-like and stacking states was governed by solvents and temperature.

Benchmarking Quantum Mechanical Methods for the Description of Charge-Transfer States in π-Stacked Nucleobases

Camilo Zuluaga et al.

Summary: This study compares how 40 different quantum mechanical methods describe the excited states of a guanine-thymine pi-stacked nucleobase dimer system, including both the 5'-TG-3' and 5'-GT-3' conformations. The distance between the nucleobases is found to be a major factor in determining the energy of the CT state and the difference in dipole moments between the CT and ground state. Compared to states localized on one nucleobase, there is a wider range of values (and errors) for the energies of CT states.

Folded Perylene Diimide Loops as Mechanoresponsive Motifs

Hanna Traeger et al.

Summary: A supramolecular mechanophore capable of indicating deformation through fluorescence color change when integrated into polymers was reported. The mechanophore exhibited an instant response with a linear correlation to applied strain, offering advantages over intermolecular dye aggregates. The experiments showed that looped mechanophores displaying intramolecular excimer formation provide a more pronounced and concentration-independent optical change, directly signaling mechanical processes.
