Influence of Vibronic Coupling on Ultrafast Singlet Fission in a Linear Terrylenediimide Dimer

Jonathan D. Schultz et al.

Summary: Singlet fission is a photophysical process that can enhance the efficiency of solar cells, with recent experimental evidence suggesting a role for nuclear motions and vibronic coupling in supporting rapid and efficient singlet fission in organic chromophore assemblies. Observations of low-frequency coherent wavepacket transfer indicate a significant dependence of singlet fission on nonadiabatic coupling. These findings demonstrate how nonadiabatic mixing influences the complex potential energy landscape of ultrafast singlet fission.

Regarding expressions of the oscillatory patterns in the 2D spectra of a displaced oscillator model

Duc Viet Le et al.

Summary: Efforts have been made to analyze oscillation patterns to characterize vibronic couplings in a two-dimensional electronic spectrum. A commonly used displaced oscillator model with a four-level vibronic system has been shown to be a special case of an electronic two-level system coupled to a harmonic oscillator model. The study provides a detailed description of how the two models are interconnected and showcases their applicability under different temperature conditions.

Summary: This study investigates the photoinduced PCET dynamics of a biomimetic model system using various spectroscopic techniques and computational methods, providing insights into the complex dynamics and synergistic motions involved in the process. Specifically, the evolution of the 2DEV line shape, sensitive to the mixing of vibronic states, is interpreted through accurate computational modeling of the charge separated state, revealing a gradual change in electron density distribution associated with a dihedral twist occurring on a 120 fs time scale.

Multimode two-dimensional vibronic spectroscopy. I. Orientational response and polarization-selectivity

James D. Gaynor et al.

Summary: The development of complete orientational response functions for a model system allows for simulation of polarization-selective 2D EV and 2D VE spectra with arbitrary combinations of linearly polarized electric fields. Analytical methods are proposed to isolate desired signals within complicated spectra and extract relative orientation between vibrational and vibronic dipole moments. Time-dependent peak amplitudes of coherence peaks are discussed as a means for isolating desired signals within the time-domain.

Summary: This paper demonstrates experimental techniques for mapping coupled electronic and vibrational coordinates in complex systems through polarization-selective 2D VE and 2D EV spectroscopies. The study emphasizes the relationships between vibronic coupling parameters, Hamiltonian terms, and non-Condon effects, showing how they impact spectroscopic observables. The simulations of polarization-selective 2D EV and 2D VE spectra provide insights into measuring parameters of the vibronic Hamiltonian and non-Condon effects.

Summary: This study discusses the oscillatory signals produced by femtosecond laser pulses in transient-absorption spectroscopy measurements and the analysis of quantum beats. By comparing the measured spectra with microscopic models, the mechanism behind each quantum-beat signal can be identified. Mechanistic Study of Charge Separation in a Nonfullerene Organic Donor-Acceptor Blend Using Multispectral Multidimensional Spectroscopy

Yin Song et al.

Summary: Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) based on nonfullerene acceptors are now demonstrating commercially viable efficiencies, with efficient charge separation achieved through the generation of bound polaron pairs (BPPs) within the acceptor domains. The transition from BPPs to delocalized polarons within a short time frame is crucial for efficient hole transfer, highlighting the importance of weak electron-hole binding and polaron delocalization at nearly zero driving force. This study provides valuable insight into enhancing the power conversion efficiency of OPVs.

Vibronic coupling in energy transfer dynamics and two-dimensional electronic-vibrational spectra

Eric A. Arsenault et al.

Summary: The study introduced a heterodimer model to investigate various mechanisms of vibronic coupling and their impact on energy transfer. Experimental findings showed that Franck-Condon activity alters excitonic structure, while Herzberg-Teller activity results in significant side-band transitions. Comparing quantum beating patterns from simulated 2DEV spectra can provide insight into the mechanism of energy transfer and determine the role of specific vibronic coupling mechanisms in such processes.

Characterization of the ultrafast spectral diffusion and vibronic coherence of TIPS-pentacene using 2D electronic spectroscopy

Duc Viet Le et al.

Summary: In this study, the coupling between the electronic and nuclear degrees of freedom of TIPS-pentacene (TIPS-Pn) was further investigated by measuring and analyzing its 2D electronic spectra in solutions. Significant vibronic coupling with the TIPS-Pn ring-breathing vibrational mode was observed, along with the detection of two spectral diffusion lifetimes and couplings with another vibrational mode. The experimental results were successfully described using the displaced harmonic oscillator model, with a Huang-Rhys factor estimated for the ring-breathing vibrational mode.
