Solvent-controlled synthesis strategy of multicolor emission carbon dots and its applications in sensing and light-emitting devices

Zhonghui Sun et al.

Summary: Carbon dots (CDs) as a new type of carbon-based luminescent nanomaterials have been successfully synthesized with bright blue, yellow, and red fluorescence emission by simply changing the reaction solvent. The precursors and solvents used play a key role in the formation of the three emission CDs. The multicolor CDs exhibit high selectivity and sensitivity as fluorescent probes in detection applications.

Preparation of two types of silver-doped fluorescent carbon dots and determination of their antibacterial properties

Dan Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper reported the preparation of two silver-doped CDs, CD-1 and CD-2, with excellent antibacterial activity against a wide range of microorganisms. CD-2 displayed stronger antibacterial activity, possibly due to its longer emission wavelength, larger particle size, and higher silver content.

Chemical functional groups of extractives, cellulose and lignin extracted from native Leucaena leucocephala bark

Rafidah Md Salim et al.

Summary: The study characterized the chemical functional groups of an ethanol toluene-soluble extractive, alpha-cellulose, and lignin obtained from Leucaena leucocephala bark, revealing that aromatic functional groups were mainly found in the extractive, while water, carbonyl, and ether were dominant in cellulose, and methyl, methylene, carbonyl, and carboxyl groups were enriched in lignin.

A viscosity-dependent carbon dots with anti-VEGF properties for monitoring and promoting apoptosis in cancerous cell

Fanyong Yan et al.

Summary: V-CDs, a dual-function aggregation-induced emission (AIE) nanomaterial, can change its fluorescence from blue to green based on the restriction of intramolecular rotation (RIR) effect in response to changes in environment viscosity. It shows inhibitory effects on cancer cells and reduces VEGF production, exhibiting the best anti-cancer effect in combination with Taxol among various control groups.

Highly selective detection of nitroaromatic explosive 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) using N-doped carbon dots

Yuchuan Zheng et al.

Summary: Water-soluble fluorescent carbon dots (C-dots) were prepared using guanine as the sole carbon and nitrogen source through a hydrothermal process. The as-prepared C-dots were characterized to have strong blue photoluminescence, good stability, and high sensitivity for TNP sensing. Real sample analysis indicated potential applications of the C-dots for environmental TNP detection.
