Jiachen Liu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the incentives of including ROZ into CO2 EOR-storage project beyond MPZ in development strategy regard by addressing questions around timing, profit maximization, project benefits, and development strategy favorability. Novel performance metrics and a resultant designing framework are established to optimize the development strategy design of Brownfield ROZ reservoir and promote Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Insights on CO2 EOR-storage in Brownfield ROZ reservoir are also provided, indicating the importance of CO2 availability and timing on project success.

Calculation of the diffusion coefficient of gas diffusion in coal: The comparison of numerical model and traditional analytical model

Haiyan Wang et al.

Summary: The study shows that the diffusion coefficient in coal matrix calculated by numerical models is significantly larger than that by analytical models. The bidisperse numerical model is more accurate than the bidisperse analytical model. Additionally, the evolution of the diffusion coefficient with gas pressure differs between the adsorption and desorption stages.

CO2 and N2 adsorption/desorption effects and thermodynamic characteristics in confined coal

Xiaodong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study conducted experiments using high volatile bituminous coal to investigate the adsorption-induced deformation mechanism of confined coals with CO2 and N2, and developed a thermodynamic model based on the swelling characteristics. The results showed that the coal matrix exhibited different stages of swelling/shrinkage during the adsorption/desorption process. Furthermore, factors such as adsorbate type, chemical potential, and stress conditions were identified as key factors affecting coal swelling.

Wettability effect on the invasion patterns during immiscible displacement in heterogeneous porous media under dynamic conditions: A numerical study

T. R. Zakirov et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the wettability effect on the characteristics of two-phase immiscible flows in porous media at different capillary numbers. Results show that increasing capillary number suppresses the wettability effect on displacement characteristics. The article also establishes a relationship between pore-filling events and fluctuations in the pressure signature during compact displacement.

M. Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dissolution process in non-uniform porous media generated by quartet structure using lattice Boltzmann method. The results show the different behaviors of reaction and diffusion under various conditions. The distribution of undissolved solid affects the breakthrough area, while the impact of immiscible gas is minimal.

Study on seepage and adsorption characteristics of porous media containing adsorbent based on lattice Boltzmann

Jiaming Lei et al.

Summary: The double-distribution function Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) is used to simulate the seepage and adsorption process of solution flow through porous media with an adsorbent at the pore scale. The effects of inlet and outlet density difference, inlet concentration, and adsorbent packed bed height on the permeability and adsorption process of two-dimensional porous media with adsorbent are discussed. The numerical simulation results show that the adsorption equilibrium time increases with the increase in inlet and outlet density difference and inlet concentration, and the thicker the adsorption layer, the lower the adsorption rate.

Summary: The experiments on the effect of N-2-enhanced coalbed methane show that increasing N-2 fraction can reduce coal selectivity to CH4 and promote its desorption. Moreover, nitrogen fraction and micropore volume are the main factors controlling volume deformation.
