Family Caregiver Perspectives on Suffering of Persons With Severe Dementia: A Qualitative Study

Chetna Malhotra et al.

Summary: This study conducted qualitative in-depth interviews with family caregivers of persons with severe dementia to assess dimensions of suffering and their impact on care decisions. Five dimensions of suffering were identified, and it was found that suffering influences caregivers' expression of a wish for the patient's death and their decisions regarding care interventions. The study highlights the importance of person-centered care for persons with severe dementia.
