Real ileal amino acid digestibility of pea protein compared to casein in healthy humans: a randomized trial

Florence M. Guillin et al.

Summary: This study compared the digestibility and utilization of pea protein and milk casein in humans and evaluated the nutritional quality of pea protein. The results showed that although some amino acids in pea protein had lower digestibility, the overall digestibility and utilization were similar to milk casein, and pea protein was able to meet all amino acid requirements. This study demonstrated the potential of pea isolate as a high-quality protein.

Very low ileal nitrogen and amino acid digestibility of zein compared to whey protein isolate in healthy volunteers

Juliane Calvez et al.

Summary: The study found that the true ileal nitrogen digestibility of whey protein isolate (WPI) was significantly higher than that of zein. Amino acid digestibility in WPI was generally higher compared to zein, indicating that zein is poorly digestible in healthy humans.

Determinants of amino acid bioavailability from ingested protein in relation to gut health

Claire Gaudichon et al.

Summary: Recent research developments have focused on the bioavailability of amino acids in both good health and gut disorders. Minimally invasive methods using stable isotopes have been developed for humans, with data collected in different models such as humans, pigs, and rats. Studies mainly focused on plant protein digestibility and the impact of food processing on animal protein, with plant protein generally being less digestible than animal protein. More data is needed to understand the effect of gut disorders on protein digestibility.

Protein and amino acid digestibility of15N Spirulina in rats

Romain Tessier et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine nitrogen and amino acid digestibility in rats fed with Spirulina, and also to test the effect of sonication on breaking cell walls. The results showed that the digestibility of nitrogen and amino acids in Spirulina was relatively low, with no significant effect of prior sonication.

Goat milk protein digestibility in relation to intestinal function

Sindhu Kashyap et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the true ileal indispensable amino acid digestibility of intrinsically labeled goat milk protein in South Indian women of reproductive age and measure the intestinal absorption of amino acid and inert sugar. Results showed that the digestibility of goat milk protein in South Indian women with normal intestinal function was comparable to healthy French adults.
