Consistency and Stability of Motor Subtype Classifications in Patients With de novo Parkinson's Disease

Jingru Ren et al.

Summary: The study found fair consistency among the Jankovic, Schiess, and Kang classification systems. Schiess classification was the most stable, while Jankovic classification was the most unstable. Non-motor symptoms questionnaire scores were found to influence the stability of PD motor subtypes, suggesting that combining non-motor symptoms with motor symptoms can increase the effectiveness of PD subtyping.

Impact of motor subtype on non-motor symptoms and fall-related features in patients with early Parkinson's disease

Kyum-Yil Kwon et al.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the non-motor and fall-related features between tremor-dominant (TD) and postural instability-gait difficulty (PIGD) subtypes in early Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. The results showed that in early PD, PIGD subtype is significantly associated with higher levels of fatigue, gastrointestinal dysfunction, and fall-related features compared to the TD subtype.

Summary: The study found that Parkinson's disease patients have lower serum S1P levels compared to controls, and lower S1P concentrations are associated with more severe motor symptoms and faster motor decline in PD patients, but not with cognitive decline.

Summary: Research shows that serum NFL levels in Parkinson's disease patients are associated with motor decline and dopamine transporter loss, but not significantly related to cognitive decline. Higher serum NFL levels also predict progression of PIGD clinical features.
