Response of microalgae Chlorella vulgaris to Cr stress and continuous Cr removal in a membrane photobioreactor

Miao-Miao Lu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicity of Cr(VI) to microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and its removal by continuous microalgae cultivation in membrane photobioreactor (MPBR). The results showed that both SRT and HRT had significant effects on algal biomass production and pollutants removal. During continuous operation, MPBR achieved a maximum total Cr reduction of 50.0% at HRT of 3-day and SRT of 40-day, and a maximum volumetric removal rate of total Cr of 0.21 mg L-1 d(-1) at HRT of 2-day and SRT of 40-day.

Plasmonic Ag/AgCl/NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) inorganic-organic hybridized heterojunction as visible-light-driven photocatalyst for hexavalent chromium reduction

Mingjun Bao et al.

Summary: This study focuses on constructing an inorganic-organic hybridized heterojunction composite photocatalyst of Ag/AgCl/NH2-MIL-88B (Fe) for effectively photocatalytic removal of Cr (VI). The formed ternary composite showed more stable and higher photocatalytic reduction performance, with a photo-reduction rate of 85.7%, attributed to the high separation and migration efficiency of photogenerated electrons and holes pair. The heterojunction structure and surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag/AgCl enhanced the absorption capacity of visible light, promoting electron excitation and transfer while reducing recombination rate.
