Interaction mechanism of organic carboxylate with kaolinite and montmorillonite: A density functional theory study

Qing Luo et al.

Summary: Organic inhibitors can improve the flotation selectivity of minerals associated with kaolinite and montmorillonite. DFT calculations were used to determine the adsorption conformations and energies of nine organic carboxylate inhibitors, finding that hydrogen phthalate ion interacted most strongly with both surfaces. The interaction mechanism of small molecular organic carboxylates with kaolinite and montmorillonite was explained at atomic and electronic levels.

Interface Interaction of Benzohydroxamic Acid with Lead Ions on Oxide Mineral Surfaces: A Coordination Mechanism Study

Jianyong He et al.

Summary: Surface coordination chemistry plays a crucial role in adsorption, separation, and catalysis. The study investigated the surface coordination interactions of benzohydroxamic acid with lead ion on the cassiterite surface through first-principles calculations, revealing the preference of Pb(II) to react with the cassiterite surface rather than BHA due to weaker chelation ability. The findings indicate that the coordination mechanisms of Pb(II) on oxide minerals are influenced by the coordination ability of BHA and the unique electronic structure of Pb(II), shedding light on the activation mechanism of metal ions on oxide mineral surfaces for improved flotation performance.

Selective adsorption mechanism of dodecylamine on the hydrated surface of hematite and quartz

Hongliang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the selective adsorption behaviors of dodecylamine (DDA) and causticized cassava starch (CCS) on the hydrated surface of quartz and hematite through experimental and computational methods. The results showed that increasing DDA dosage can improve TFE grade but reduce concentrate recovery, while increasing CCS dosage can improve concentrate recovery but reduce TFE grade to some extent. The work sheds new light on the selective adsorption mechanism of flotation reagents on the hydrated surface of oxide minerals.

Adsorption mechanism of water molecules on hematite (104) surface and the hydration microstructure

Hongliang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the adsorption mechanism of water molecules on hematite surface and the hydration microstructures using FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. Experimental and computational results showed that water molecules could chemically adsorb on the hematite surface, forming different layers of hydration structures.

Effects of the Goethite Surface Hydration Microstructure on the Adsorption of the Collectors Dodecylamine and Sodium Oleate

Hongliang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used density functional theory calculations to investigate the role of hydration on the surface of goethite and its effects on flotation reagents. The findings show that the hydration microstructure affects the adsorption mechanisms of DDA and OL on the goethite surface.
