Amorphous NiSn and FeOOH as bifunctional co-catalysts for oxygen reduction and phenol (water) oxidation over BiVO4 under visible light

Xubo Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that modifying BiV with poorly crystallized sFe and sNi resulted in higher activity for phenol oxidation and O2 reduction in aqueous solution under light. In sFe/sNi/BiV, there is a mutual promotion between the sNi-mediated electron transfer and the sFe-mediated hole transfer, leading to an improved efficiency of charge separation for O2 reduction and phenol oxidation.

Boosting photodegradation of dye solutions based on Eu3+doping in Bismuth-layered oxyhalogenide semiconductor NaBi3O4Cl1.5Br0.5

Donglei Wei et al.

Summary: In this work, an indirect semiconductor NaBi3O4Cl1.5Br0.5 prepared via sol-gel synthesis with the subsequent solid-state reaction was reported, showing distinct influences of rare ions doping on its optical properties. Specifically, Eu3+ doping improved photodegradation, while La3+/Gd3+ doping had minimal impact on photochemical properties. The findings suggest that Eu3+-doped NaBi3O4Cl1.5Br0.5 is favorable for photocatalysis application, but not suitable for photoluminescence application.

Research progress of magnetic bismuth-based materials in photocatalysis: A review

Mingliang Ma et al.

Summary: With the serious environmental pollution, photocatalytic technology has been extensively studied for the continuous development of society. Bismuth-based materials, as appealing semiconductors, have become a research hotspot in photocatalysis due to their unique electronic structure, appropriate bandgap energy, high light quantum, and outstanding electronic transmission efficiency. However, the separation and recovery of photocatalyst from reaction systems remains challenging. Introducing a magnetic component is the most promising strategy to facilitate the separation process.

In situ fabrication of Bi2MoO6/Bi2MoO6-x homojunction photocatalyst for simultaneous photocatalytic phenol degradation and Cr(VI) reduction

Huidong Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Bi2MoO6/Bi2MoO6-x homojunction photocatalyst was designed and fabricated with significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for phenol degradation and Cr(VI) reduction. The high activity was attributed to the efficient separation of photogenerated electrons/holes and the synergistic effect between phenol oxidation and Cr(VI) reduction facilitated by the homojunction structure.

Ultrathin nanoflake-assembled hierarchical BiOBr microflower with highly exposed {001} facets for efficient photocatalytic degradation of gaseous ortho-dichlorobenzene

Juanjuan Sun et al.

Summary: A series of BiOBr catalysts with different microstructures were synthesized by adjusting solvothermal conditions. The hierarchical BiOBr microflower (BiOBr MF) was found to be the most efficient in promoting charge carrier separation and migration, leading to superior photocatalytic activity in the degradation of gaseous ortho-dichlorobenzene (o-DCB) under visible light irradiation. The enhanced charge transfer mechanism was revealed through energy band structures and reactive oxygen species analysis.

Accelerated photocatalytic degradation of iohexol over Co3O4/g-C3N4/Bi2O2CO3 of p-n/n-n dual heterojunction under simulated sunlight by persulfate

Weiming Xiang et al.

Summary: The novel Co3O4/g-C3N4/Bi2O2CO3 (BCCN) photocatalyst with p-n/n-n heterojunction was synthesized, which showed significantly improved degradation efficiency for iohexol in the presence of persulfate and light. The addition of g-C3N4 lowered the conduction band of the catalyst, leading to the production of superoxide radicals and activation of persulfate. The interaction between sulfate, superoxide, and hydroxyl radicals enhanced singlet oxygen production, ultimately providing a new method for degrading organic pollutants in aquatic environments.

Engineering of oxygen vacancy as defect sites in silicates for removal of diverse organic pollutants and enhanced aromatic alcohol oxidation

Debashrita Sarkar et al.

Summary: Efficient charge separation upon light irradiation is crucial for determining the photocatalytic activity efficiency. Oxygen vacancy rich Bi2SiO5 nanoparticles were synthesized using a hydrothermal approach to achieve superior charge separation. The incorporation of halide anions led to the generation of oxygen vacancy sites and preferential growth of the monoclinic phase. The synergetic effect of halide ions and oxygen vacancy sites on the surface enhanced the photocatalytic activity of the Bi2SiO5 nanoparticles.

Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3 quantum dots-sensitized rutile TiO2 nanorod arrays for enhanced solar photoelectrocatalysis in azo dye degradation

Guanda Zhou et al.

Summary: By adjusting the concentration of the Ti precursor and reaction time during hydrothermal process, the density and diameter of rutile TiO2 nanorod arrays vertically aligned on conductive fluorine-doped tin oxide glass can be optimized for photocatalysis. Quantum dots of V2VI3 (V = Bi; VI = Se, Te) are then used as sensitizers to enhance the visible-light response of TiO2, leading to increased photocurrent, improved light harvesting properties, and enhanced charge carrier separation capability.
