A comparative study of the vibration characteristics of railway vehicle axlebox bearings with inner/outer race faults

Jinhai Wang et al.

Summary: A dynamic model with inner/outer races faults of axlebox bearing for railway vehicles was established and validated with experimental data. Vibration features showed different sensitivities for inner and outer race fault identification, with peak-to-peak value (PPV) performing best for inner race fault and skewness value (SV) for outer race fault at most severe fault cases. This research provides meaningful guidance for accurate diagnosis of axlebox bearing faults in railway vehicles.

Summary: The novel spectral Markov transition field (SMTF) algorithm is proposed to represent the frequency spectrum characteristics of vibration signals in image form through the construction of the first-order Markov transition matrix of the frequency-domain signal. Experimental evaluation shows that the SMTF algorithm has superior classification results and greater separability.
