The influence of kenaf contents and stacking sequence on drop-weight impact properties of hybrid laminated composites reinforced polyvinyl butyral composites

Suhad D. Salman

Summary: This study investigates the substitution of aramid fibers with woven kenaf in producing helmet shells. Drop-weight impact tests on different configurations of kenaf and aramid reinforced polyvinyl butyral film were conducted, revealing that hybrid laminates with woven kenaf layers alternating with aramid layers have better energy absorption and impact resistance compared to separate layers of woven kenaf and aramid.

Partial replacement of synthetic fibres by natural fibres in hybrid composites and its effect on monotonic properties

Suhad D. Salman

Summary: The study explored the use of jute fibers as substitutes for carbon fibers in composite materials, demonstrating that carbon/jute hybrids exhibit superior dynamic mechanical properties. Placing carbon fibers in the inner layers and jute fibers in the outer layers resulted in reduced performance compared to hybrids with jute in the inner layers. Hybridization with jute fibers increased the damping factor at higher temperatures.

Random copolymer membrane coated PBO fibers with significantly improved interfacial adhesion for PBO fibers/cyanate ester composites

Lin TANG et al.

Summary: This study successfully increased the surface roughness of PBO fibers through a modification method, enhancing their interfacial compatibility with resin matrix and improving the single fiber pull-out strength, while maintaining excellent tensile strength. The research provides a strong theoretical basis and technical support for controlling the surface structure and chemistry of inert substrates.

Microstructural investigation and hole quality evaluation in S2/FM94 glass-fibre composites under dry and cryogenic conditions

Khaled Giasin et al.

Summary: A new environmentally friendly cryogenic cooling technique was used for drilling S2/FM94 glass fibre reinforced epoxy composite in a liquid nitrogen bath. The study aimed to investigate the effects of drilling parameters and cryogenic cooling on cutting forces, surface roughness, hardness, and delamination factor at hole entry and exit sides. The results showed that spindle speed and cryogenic cooling had the most significant influence on cutting forces and surface roughness, while cryogenic cooling had the most significant influence on increasing hardness and delamination size at the hole entry and exit sides.

Optimization for drilling process of metal-composite aeronautical structures

Cristiano Devitte et al.

Summary: This study focuses on analyzing the influence of uncoated carbide drills, cutting speeds, and feed rates on delamination factor and thrust force during drilling of metal-composite laminates and joints. The research found that feed rate and drill type were the most significant parameters affecting delamination factor, while feed rate was the most relevant factor for thrust force.
