Different fates of the Yangtze and Mississippi deltaic wetlands under similar riverine sediment decline and sea-level rise

H. F. Yang et al.

Summary: The Yangtze River has experienced a sharp sediment decrease due to dam constructions since the 1980s, similar to the Mississippi River's sediment decline. However, the response of deltaic wetlands in the Yangtze Delta to sediment decrease differs from that of the Mississippi Delta, with the former continuing to expand due to a larger sediment-supply capacity from the subaqueous delta. This difference may be attributed to the stronger coastal hydrodynamics in the Yangtze Delta.
