Neuronavigation based 10 sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy in chronic migraine: an exploratory study

Anant Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, fMRI-guided neuronavigation was used to target the left motor cortex, and significant reduction in pain ratings, headache frequency, and MIDAS questionnaire were observed in the real rTMS group, with effects maintained at one-month follow-up. Further studies are needed to confirm the long-term pain relief potential of fMRI-based rTMS over the left motor cortex in chronic migraine patients.

Long-Term Effects of Self-Administered Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Episodic Migraine Prevention: Results of a Randomized Controlled Trial

Heiko Pohl et al.

Summary: Self-administered anodal tDCS over the visual cortex significantly decreased the number of monthly migraine days in episodic migraine. The study provides evidence of tDCS effectiveness in reducing migraine attacks.

Summary: This study suggests a possible role for tDCS in the treatment of chronic migraine (CM) and medication overuse headache (MOH). The clinical improvement observed in patients with CM and MOH is associated with a potentiation of EEG alpha rhythm.

Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) for migraine: an fMRI study

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that after 4 weeks of taVNS treatment, patients in the taVNS group had significantly reduced number of headache days, pain intensity, and migraine attack times. Functional connectivity analysis revealed that taVNS can increase the connectivity between the motor-related thalamic subregion and anterior cingulate cortex/medial prefrontal cortex, and decrease the connectivity between occipital cortex-related thalamic subregion and postcentral gyrus/precuneus.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on the Efficacy of Repeated Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation for Migraine

Guoshuai Cai et al.

Summary: Repeated tDCS treatment over a period of 4 weeks or more is effective in reducing migraine pain intensity and duration of migraine episode, with benefits persisting for at least 4 weeks after treatment completion. Both anodal and cathodal stimulation are effective for reducing migraine pain intensity.
