Risk Factors for Vestibular and Oculomotor Outcomes After Sport-Related Concussion

Melissa N. Womble et al.

Summary: The study revealed that female sex, on-field dizziness, fogginess, and post-traumatic migraine symptoms were all predictive factors of experiencing vestibular-oculomotor symptoms/impairment after sport-related concussion (SRC).

Summary: The study aimed to quantify the diagnostic accuracy of VOMS, finding it most effective in ruling out the presence of sport-related concussion; The concussion group exhibited more symptoms in all VOMS tests in the first week following concussion.

Test-retest reliability of the Vestibular Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) tool and modified Balance Error Scoring System (mBESS) in US military personnel

Anthony P. Kontos et al.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the reliability of the VOMS in healthy, uninjured USASOC personnel and found that VOMS demonstrated excellent internal consistency and moderate-to-good test-retest reliability. In contrast, mBESS showed poor internal consistency and poor-to-moderate test-retest reliability. The results suggest that VOMS is a reliable addition to the MACE-2, while mBESS single-leg stance is less reliable in this population.

Objective Dual-Task Turning Measures for Return-to-Duty Assessment After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: The ReTURN Study Protocol

Peter C. Fino et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy, predictive capacity, and responsiveness to rehabilitation of objective dual-task turning measures within an mTBI population. Through two phases, the researchers will explore the potential new guidance and tools these measures can provide for clinical decisions in individuals with mTBI.
