Hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents as attractive media for low-concentration hydrophobic VOC capture

Chun-Chi Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of capturing VOCs from exhaust using hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs), and found that DESs with fatty acids containing long alkyl chains achieved high absorption capacity. The hydrophobic interactions in fatty acid eutectics were critical for improving VOC absorption ability.

Reversible absorption of nitrogen dioxide by choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents and their aqueous mixtures

Chun-Chi Chen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a new strategy for capturing nitrogen dioxide (NO2) using deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and their aqueous mixtures. The results show that ChCl-based DESs have excellent NO2 absorption capability, which increases with increasing HBD content. Additionally, the DES aqueous mixtures retain high NO2 solubility while exhibiting a lower viscosity after the introduction of water.

Deep eutectic solvent-based green absorbents for the effective removal of volatile organochlorine compounds from biogas

Patrycja Makos-Chelstowska et al.

Summary: A new procedure based on physical absorption using deep eutectic solvents (DES) composed of natural components was developed in this study to efficiently absorb volatile organochlorine compounds (VOXs) present in biogas, reducing environmental problems caused by VOXs. The absorption efficiency of DES composed of syringol and levulinic acid in a 1:1 molar ratio was proven, and it was demonstrated that DES could maintain its absorption capacity after multiple absorption-desorption cycles. Studies on absorption mechanisms revealed that H-bonding and van der Waals interactions were the main driving forces for the removal of VOXs from biogas.
