Graphene oxide functionalized with nano hydroxyapatite for the efficient removal of U(VI) from aqueous solution

Minhua Su et al.

Summary: A novel composite material, graphene oxide (GO)/hydroxyapatite (HAP), was synthesized successfully for effective removal and immobilization of hexavalent uranium (U(VI)). The composite exhibited outstanding U(VI) sorption capacity and the phosphate group in the composite played a key role in U(VI) retention and incorporation. This development may lead to the creation of highly efficient materials for treating radioactive wastewater.

Summary: This study reported the synthesis, characterization, molecular docking, and metal chelating potential of various pyridoxine carbamates for biometals using spectroscopic methods. The compound 4g was identified as the most potent metal chelator, and interactions with Cu+2 ions were studied. Additionally, the compounds showed drug-likeness properties and displayed significant nootropic activity in comparison to donepezil. The study also demonstrated the binding of the compound 4g with acetylcholinesterase and BSA.

Fabrication and performance of reticular ceramic fiber membranes by freeze casting using a gel network

Wei Zhou et al.

Summary: Manufacturing ceramic membranes with good reusability is of great practical significance. By using a macromolecular gel network to enhance a reticulated skeleton ceramic membrane, membranes with high porosity and permeability were prepared, effectively reducing the content of organic carbon and calcium ions. The membrane's flux fouled by contaminants can be effectively recovered through simple chemical rinsing.

Red mud for the efficient adsorption of U(VI) from aqueous solution: Influence of calcination on performance and mechanism

Wanying Wu et al.

Summary: This study produced macroporous iron and carbon combined calcined red mud (ICRM) and carbon calcined red mud (CRM) through calcination in the range of 500-800 degrees C, revealing advantageous performances with stable U adsorption capacities. The main adsorption mechanisms of ICRM are surface electrostatic attraction, physical adsorption by porous structure, and chemical adsorption by active Al and Fe components. Overall, ICRM offers theoretical guidances to radioactive drainage management and red mud reuse by exhibiting superior U adsorption capacity and positive potential charges under acidic conditions.

Summary: The study emphasizes the critical role of solution pH in the retention of U(VI) by alpha-/gamma-alumina, with gamma-Al2O3 showing higher removal efficiency. Phosphate ions significantly promote U(VI) adsorption, while humic acid has different effects on U(VI) removal by alumina under different conditions.
