Mechanistic and kinetic insights of synergistic mineralization of ofloxacin using a sono-photo hybrid process

Ritesh Patidar et al.

Summary: The study presents an ultrasound-photocatalysis based hybrid method for effective degradation/mineralization of the bio-recalcitrant pharmaceutical pollutant ofloxacin. The combined US/UV/H2O2/ZnO method showed significant synergy with OFLX degradation rate of 94.2% and total organic carbon removal rate of 45.1% under optimal operating conditions. The power-law kinetic model well represented the degradation kinetics with orders of reaction being 2.2 and 1.9 for different hybrid methods.

Insights into catalytic activation of peroxymonosulfate for carbamazepine degradation by MnO2 nanoparticles in-situ anchored titanate nanotubes: Mechanism, ecotoxicity and DFT study

Fei Pan et al.

Summary: This study successfully degraded and mineralized CBZ using AMnTi composite material, increasing the degradation rate of CBZ. The high catalytic activity of AMnTi is attributed to its unique structure, leading to efficient charge transfer and catalytic activation through Mn-O-Ti linkage, and a Mn-Ti cycle mediating catalytic activation of PMS was discovered. Both hydroxyl and sulfate radicals played key roles in CBZ degradation.

Effect of inorganic anions on the performance of advanced oxidation processes for degradation of organic contaminants

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Inorganic anions such as chloride, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, and nitrate have a significant impact on the performance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). This influence is not solely attributed to their quenching effect, but also affects reactive species, oxidant stability, catalyst activity, and degradation products. Understanding the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of inorganic anions on AOPs is crucial for optimizing the treatment of organic pollutants.
