Role of ecosystem-atmosphere exchanges of semi-volatile organic compounds in organic aerosol formation

Florian Couvidat et al.

Summary: Deposition of gas fraction of SVOC can be an important removal pathway, with removal potentially influenced by vegetation and soil, as well as re-volatilization. Simulation studies suggest that air-vegetation-soil exchanges may be more efficient in reducing SVOC concentrations, compared to dry deposition of particles, with potential for re-emissions of accumulated SVOC in summer.

Monitoring of pesticides in ambient air: Prioritization of substances

Marion Hulin et al.

Summary: A method was developed to prioritize active substances for monitoring in ambient air in France, using a theoretical approach based on criteria such as national uses, emission potential, persistence, and toxicity. This led to the selection of 90 priority pesticides out of 1316 identified substances, with 43 requiring further development. The experts recommended a longer term monitoring of these substances after an exploratory campaign. The proposed method is reproducible, transparent, and adaptable to different agricultural and geographical conditions.

Historic Atmospheric Organochlorine Pesticide and Halogenated Industrial Compound Inputs to Glacier Ice Cores in Antarctica and the Arctic

Mark H. Hermanson et al.

Summary: Ice cores from Site M in East Antarctica and Holtedahlfonna in Svalbard were analyzed for organochlorine pesticides and organohalogen industrial compounds. The two sites are affected by long-range atmospheric transport, with different processes. The analysis revealed differences in the distribution of pollutants between the two locations.
