A state-of-the-art review on indoor air pollution and strategies for indoor air pollution control

Javier Gonzalez-Martin et al.

Summary: Indoor air pollution is a significant issue, leading to millions of premature deaths and considerable economic losses annually. Traditional physical-chemical technologies are limited by low concentrations and diversity of pollutants, thus biotechnologies are considered a cost-effective and sustainable solution for indoor air purification.

Very volatile organic compounds (VVOC) as emissions from wooden materials and in indoor air of new prefabricated wooden houses

Alexandra Schieweck

Summary: This study found that even wooden materials can emit VVOCs, but they do not play a significant role in indoor air of new prefabricated wooden houses. Substances identified as potential sources include insulation materials, leading to indoor air quality issues in some houses. Therefore, the appropriate selection and application of construction materials are crucial for achieving acceptable indoor air quality.

High-Resolution Exposure Assessment for Volatile Organic Compounds in Two California Residences

David M. Lunderberg et al.

Summary: Residences play a significant role in human exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), with emissions from buildings and their static contents being the main contributing factor. Occupant activities and outdoor-to-indoor transport also contribute to VOC exposures. Some VOCs exceeded chronic health guidelines, but exposures for other assessable species were generally below guideline levels. Even older buildings can substantially contribute to occupant exposures through VOC emissions.
