Transcriptomic analysis suggested the involvement of impaired lipid droplet biogenesis in graphene oxide-induced cytotoxicity in human umbilical vein endothelial cells

Yingmei Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that the cytotoxicity of graphene oxide (GO) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) is related to impaired lipid droplet biogenesis, with the size of GO and lipid metabolism pathways also influencing its cytotoxicity. GO-L induced more significant cytotoxicity, while GO-S had a greater impact on KEGG pathways related to lipid metabolism.

Graphene oxide affects growth and physiological indexes in Larix olgensis seedlings and the soil properties of Haplic Cambisols in Northeast China

Jinfeng Song et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the application of graphene oxide (GO) on Changbai larch seedlings had an impact on the growth and physiological characteristics of the seedlings, especially at high concentrations. Additionally, GO may also inhibit nitrogen and phosphorus cycling in Haplic Cambisols.

Influence of graphene on the multiple metabolic pathways of Zea mays roots based on transcriptome analysis

Zhiwen Chen et al.

Summary: Research indicates that treatment with 50 mg/L graphene significantly promoted root growth in maize seedlings, increasing total root length, root volume, and the number of root tips and forks. The analysis also revealed an increase in nitrogen and potassium content in the rhizosphere soil, and transcriptional profiling demonstrated the upregulation of key pathways and functional genes in maize roots in response to graphene treatment.

A transcriptomic overview of lung and liver changes one day after pulmonary exposure to graphene and graphene oxide

Sarah S. Poulsen et al.

Summary: The study found differences in transcriptomic responses in the lung and liver of mice after exposure to graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). GO exposure induced more differentially expressed genes, affected more functions and pathways compared to rGO. The differences in responses suggest that physicochemical properties play a significant role in biological effects of graphene-based materials.

Nitrate dose-responsive transcriptome analysis identifies transcription factors and small secreted peptides involved in nitrogen response in Tartary buckwheat

Changying Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of Tartary buckwheat roots in response to different doses of nitrate, identifying genes encoding N transporters and transcription factors that play important roles in N transport and root system architecture. Findings suggest that the plasticity of lateral roots drives the adaptation of Tartary buckwheat under low nitrogen conditions.

Integrating transcriptome and physiological analyses to elucidate the essential biological mechanisms of graphene phytotoxicity of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.)

Zhao Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the molecular regulation mechanisms involved in nanomaterial-treated alfalfa were investigated, and it was found that the number of transcriptionally active DEGs in plants under nanomaterial stress was proportional to the stress level. The GO analysis and KEGG pathway analysis indicated significant biochemical processes and pathways related to graphene-responsive genes in alfalfa. Enzymes related to nitrogen metabolism were identified as playing a crucial role in adapting to graphene stress in alfalfa plants.

Graphene oxide decreases Cd concentration in rice seedlings but intensifies growth restriction

Yue You et al.

Summary: The study found that while graphene oxide (GO) reduced the accumulation of Cd in rice seedlings, it had adverse effects on plant growth under co-contamination conditions with Cd. Therefore, the impacts of GO on crop production, both positive and negative, should be a concern.

Transport-coupled ubiquitination of the borate transporter BOR1 for its boron-dependent degradation

Akira Yoshinari et al.

Summary: This study identified the direct ubiquitination site of BOR1, demonstrated its K63-linked polyubiquitination, and highlighted the importance of amino acid residues near the substrate-binding pocket for vacuolar sorting. BOR1 variants lacking boron transport activity showed reduced polyubiquitination and sorting to the vacuole. Coexpression of wild-type and transport-defective BOR1 in the same cells revealed degradation of the wild-type under sufficient boron supply, suggesting that polyubiquitination of BOR1 relies on its conformational transition during the transport cycle.
