Isolation of a New Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV) Variant from a Fish Farm in Scotland

Jessica Benkaroun et al.

Summary: The aquatic virus, IPNV, infects farmed fish such as salmonids and causes economic losses. To investigate a serotyping discrepancy, the complete genome of new IPNV isolates was determined using next-generation sequencing. Phylogenetic analyses revealed the emergence of a new variant possibly due to selective pressure from vaccinated IPNV-resistant farmed fish.

Molecular Evolution of Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus in China

Kaiyue Duan et al.

Summary: Passive virus surveillance was conducted in twenty-nine salmon and trout farms in China from 2017-2020, resulting in the isolation of 25 IPNV strains mainly from rainbow trout. Genetic analysis revealed that Chinese IPNV isolates primarily clustered within genogroups I and V, with genogroup I showing limited diversity and genogroup V exhibiting unique VP2 gene sequences.

Pathogenicity trials regarding Turkish isolates of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus and viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus in rainbow trout

Summary: In Turkey, the aquaculture industry is threatened by two major viruses: IPNV and VHSV. The study found that the Bolu strain of VHSV and the HAH-4 strain of IPNV have moderate pathogenicity in rainbow trout.
