Filling distribution gaps: Two new species of the catfish genus Cambeva from southern Brazilian Atlantic Forest (Siluriformes, Trichomycteridae)

Wilson J. E. M. Costa et al.

Summary: This study provides formal descriptions for two new species of mountain catfishes belonging to the genus Cambeva, found in poorly sampled areas within the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The first species is endemic to small coastal river basins in Santa Catarina state, while the second species is endemic to the Rio Itajai-Mirim basin. Both species show little external morphological variation compared to other trichomycterine groups, highlighting the importance of using osteological characters for species identification.
