Toxic metals in toenails as biomarkers of exposure: A review

Inmaculada Salcedo-Bellido et al.

Summary: Toenails have been used as biomarkers of exposure to toxic metals, but their validity is still unclear and needs further research. Different toxic metals may have varying levels of validity as biomarkers in toenails. Lack of standardization and conflicting results among studies make it difficult to conclude whether toenails are a reliable biomarker of exposure to toxic metals.
