The Influence of Land Use Evolution on the Visitor Economy in Wuhan from the Perspective of Ecological Service Value

Qiao Chen et al.

Summary: This research utilized transfer matrix, dynamic attitude, and a linear regression model to study the characteristics of land-use change and evolution of ecological service values and their impacts on Wuhan's visitor economy. The findings showed that land-use scale changed significantly in the Wuhan metropolitan area from 1990 to 2018, with arable land, forest land, and grassland decreasing at a faster rate, while water and construction land increasing. The dynamic attitudes of land-use varied at different stages, and the influences of land-use regulation service, support service, and cultural service values on tourism economic growth were dissimilar. This study provides important insights into the effects of urban land-use on tourism economic development and offers a reference for effective control.

Socioecological informed comparative modeling to promote sustainable urban policy transitions: Case study in Chicago and Stockholm

Le Zhang et al.

Summary: Adapting successful policy transitions between cities is more challenging than single sustainability-driven projects, requiring an understanding of local conditions. Using a social-ecological model, this study compares development patterns and accessibility attractors in Chicago and Stockholm, identifying commonalities for potential adaptation strategies. By evaluating ecosystem services and NDVI, the study suggests learning from Stockholm to mitigate environmental impacts in Chicago.

Landscape Design toward Urban Resilience: Bridging Science and Physical Design Coupling Sociohydrological Modeling and Design Process

Yoonshin Kwak et al.

Summary: Resilient design in contemporary landscape architecture requires interdisciplinary efforts to address uncertainty, with gaps existing between academic research and physical practice. This study proposes a framework that integrates analytic research and design creation, and tests it through a pilot study using a sociohydrological model to support more resilient landscape design creation. The framework and pilot study highlight the importance of bridging the gap between science and practice for the creation of resilient communities.
