Application of different foliar iron fertilizers for enhancing the growth and antioxidant capacity of rice and minimizing cadmium accumulation

Summary: The study demonstrated that foliar application of chelated ferrous Fe can effectively reduce Cd uptake and toxicity in rice plants, with a moderate dose (50 mg L-1) being the most effective. The toxicity of Cd in rice is associated with the Fe concentration, and a high Fe supply can inhibit the expression of the Fe transport system, thus reducing Cd translocation.

Enhancement of cadmium accumulation in sweet sorghum as affected by nitrate

Summary: The study found that optimal nitrate supply enhances Cd accumulation in the aboveground parts of sweet sorghum, mainly due to increased dry weight and Cd concentration. However, root-to-shoot Cd translocation was not increased by nitrate, with some Cd transferring from cell walls to vacuoles in leaves. The expression of SbNRT1.1B in relation to nitrate transport showed an inverted 'U' shape with increasing nitrate levels under Cd stress, which was consistent with changes in Cd concentration in aboveground tissues.

Effects of calcium application on activities of membrane transporters in Panax notoginseng under cadmium stress

Summary: The results of the experiment showed that the available Cd content in the soil decreased with the application of Ca(OH)2 and CaCl2, and the soil pH value increased with Ca(OH)2 application. The Cd content in all parts of Panax notoginseng increased with the increase in Cd treatment concentrations, but decreased with Ca(OH)2 and CaCl2 treatments. Additionally, the activities of membrane transporters were influenced by both Ca and Cd, with Ca(2+) and OH+ promoting the activities of CC, ATPase, and CAXs.
