Can the green credit policy stimulate green innovation in heavily polluting enterprises? Evidence from a quasi-natural experiment in China

Guoqiang Hu et al.

Summary: The study finds that the 2012 Green Credit Guidelines have positively impacted green patent output of heavily polluting enterprises, particularly those with stronger financial constraints. The effect is more pronounced in HPEs with higher expected sunk costs or noncompliance costs, intense product market competition, and state ownership. These results suggest that the Green Credit Policy can promote green innovation in HPEs by imposing credit constraints, facilitating green transformation in an emerging economy.

Green credit policy, credit allocation efficiency and upgrade of energy-intensive enterprises

Huwei Wen et al.

Summary: Using quasi-experimental method, this study investigates the impact of green credit policy on energy-intensive enterprises. The findings suggest that the Green Credit Guidelines in 2012 had a negative effect on R&D intensity and total factor productivity, while reducing bank credit and increasing trade credit. On the other hand, the Energy Efficiency Credit Guidelines in 2015 increased bank credit and fixed asset investment for enterprises.

Do environmental regulations hamper small enterprises' market entry? Evidence from China

Guangqin Li et al.

Summary: Environmental regulations in China have significantly impacted the market entry of small enterprises (SEs), playing a positive role overall. However, the mechanisms associated with the effect of environmental regulations differ for SEs with product innovation compared to those with research and development activities. SEs in China tend to prefer product innovation over R&D innovation to navigate through stringent environmental regulations.
